The application is made to Migrationsverket. There are two routes: the online service (e-service), which is faster and pays by card, or paper form 155011 ('Application for a working holiday visa for young people'), which is submitted at the Embassy of Sweden. In both cases, biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are taken before the decision. NOTE: while the agreement with Argentina remains suspended, the form is not available to Argentines. This step-by-step applies to the e-service channel for when the programme reopens.
Application platform: Migrationsverket (Swedish Migration Agency): online e-service or paper form 155011 submitted at the Embassy of Sweden.
🪜 Step by step
1
Confirm that Argentina is eligible
Go to Migrationsverket's official page on 'Working holiday visa for young people'. If Argentina is not among the eligible countries, the application cannot be started. Right now it is not listed (suspended).
2
Go to the e-service and create access
From the visa page, follow the button to apply online. You need a valid e-mail, a way to scan documents and a Visa or Mastercard card for the fee.
3
Personal details (Applicant details)
Enter your full name EXACTLY as it appears on your passport, date of birth and nationality (Argentina). Any difference from the passport delays or blocks the application.
4
Passport details
Passport number, issuing country (Argentina), issue and expiry dates, exactly as in the document. Remember that the permit cannot exceed the validity of the passport.
5
Contact details
E-mail and address in Argentina. Use an e-mail you check often: this is where notices, biometrics requests and the decision will arrive.
6
Funds and return ticket
You declare that you have at least SEK 15,000 and a return ticket (or the funds to buy one). You then back it up with the attached bank statement and booking/proof of funds.
7
Health insurance
You state that you have comprehensive insurance and attach the proof showing the coverage (emergency care, hospitalisation, emergency dental care and repatriation) for your entire stay.
8
Attach documents
Upload your passport, bank statement (SEK 15,000, no more than 6 months old), return ticket and insurance policy. Use readable formats (PDF/JPG); name each file after its content.
9
Pay the fee (SEK 1,500)
Pay with Visa or Mastercard. Remember that the fee is not refunded, even if the decision is negative. Once you confirm the payment, the application is submitted.
10
Biometrics and waiting
Migrationsverket tells you how to give your biometrics (digitally or in person at the embassy). After that, you wait for the decision: 75% of complete cases are decided within 3 months.
⚠️ Common mistakes to avoid
- Starting (or trying to start) the application without checking that the agreement with Argentina has been reactivated: it is still suspended today.
- Entering a name or passport number that differs from the one in the document.
- Submitting an old bank statement (more than 6 months old) or one in someone else's name without explaining it.
- Taking out insurance that doesn't cover repatriation or emergency dental care, or that doesn't cover your whole stay.
- Applying while already in Sweden as your first permit: it must be requested from outside the country.
- Believing the fee is refunded if you are rejected: it is not refunded.

🛡️ Getting sick far from home shouldn't cost you thousands of USD
Abroad, getting sick is more than a bad day. In many destinations public healthcare depends on appointments, queues and availability, and private care is paid upfront. An emergency can cost thousands of USD, right when you are far from home and on a tight budget. That is why I recommend you never leave without travel assistance.
I recommend GO! Assistance because it covers what matters: medical care, emergencies, medication and hospitalization depending on the plan. It protects you 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world, with real-time solutions on the ground. GO! 365 ECO and GO! 365 give you USD 45,000 of global coverage: the first with a USD 100 deductible, the second with none.
If you quote from Argentina, in October GO! also offers 12 interest-free instalments on selected products.
