The Portuguese process combines an online part and an in-person part. First you register on the E-Visa Portal, complete the national visa application and request an appointment. You generate and print the form itself from the portal, and submit it signed on the day of the appointment together with all the documentation. There is no bulk online file upload as in Australia: the weight of the process is the physical folder you bring to the office.

Application platform: E-Visa Portal of the MNE (appointment request and national visa application) + in-person submission at the Portuguese Embassy in Buenos Aires or the Consulate in Córdoba.
Open the official form ↗

🪜 Step by step

1
Create your account on the E-Visa Portal
Go to pedidodevistos.mne.pt, register with your email and create a password. Confirm the email. This account is where you will complete the application and request the appointment.
2
Choose 'National Visa' and the Mobilidade Jovem reason
Within the portal, start a new national visa (long-stay) application and select the reason corresponding to the Youth Mobility / Work and Holiday Programme. Choose Argentina as your country of residence and the office (Buenos Aires or Córdoba).
3
Enter your personal details
Enter your first name and surname EXACTLY as they appear in your passport, date of birth, nationality (Argentine), marital status and contact details. Any difference from the passport may delay or stop the application.
4
Passport details
Passport number, issuing country (Argentina), issue and expiry dates, exactly as they appear in the document.
5
Trip and stay details
State the planned date of entry, the duration (up to 12 months) and the initial accommodation in Portugal. You declare that the purpose is the youth mobility / work and holiday programme.
6
Declaration of means and insurance
Confirm that you have means of subsistence and valid health insurance in Portugal (minimum coverage € 30,000). You then back it up with the physical papers on the day of the appointment.
7
Generate and print the form
When you finish, the portal produces the national visa application form as a PDF. Download it, print it and sign it: it is the one you hand in at the Embassy or Consulate.
8
Request the appointment
Book the appointment at your chosen office through the portal. Note the date and time. Remember that schedules open on specific dates and the quota is limited.
9
Show up with the complete folder
On the day of the appointment bring the signed form, the photos, the passport and DNI (original + photocopy), the apostilled criminal record check, the insurance, the proof of funds, the accommodation, the studies and the ticket. You pay the € 110 in cash and in pesos after the review.

🛡️ Getting sick far from home shouldn't cost you thousands of USD

Abroad, getting sick is more than a bad day. In many destinations public healthcare depends on appointments, queues and availability, and private care is paid upfront. An emergency can cost thousands of USD, right when you are far from home and on a tight budget. That is why I recommend you never leave without travel assistance.

I recommend GO! Assistance because it covers what matters: medical care, emergencies, medication and hospitalization depending on the plan. It protects you 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world, with real-time solutions on the ground. GO! 365 ECO and GO! 365 give you USD 45,000 of global coverage: the first with a USD 100 deductible, the second with none.

If you quote from Argentina, in October GO! also offers 12 interest-free instalments on selected products.

📶 Internet from the moment you land

I have never been left without internet on a trip. I land and my phone connects to the strongest network in the country I am visiting: I can let people know I arrived, sort out transport, book tours and keep posting content at a super affordable price (really cheap!). I always use the Maya Mobile eSIM, check out its plans by clicking the banner. See Maya Mobile plans →

Remitly · Send money home in minutes, with low fees

When you work in another country, sooner or later you will want to send money home: to help your family, cover a bill or put your savings away. That is what I use Remitly for, and why I recommend it. It is very fast: it connects to any local account in your home country and the money arrives in minutes.

You can choose between different ways to send, depending on what suits you, and the fees are low. On top of that, my ambassador code AMB6M8 gets you USD 20 off your first transfer. It applies to transfers from the countries where Remitly operates, so check in the app whether the code works in yours before you send.
