On 1 October Australia reopened the Work and Holiday 462 quota for six more countries: Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. That leaves 22 of 29 countries open and only three paused. Argentina had been waiting for weeks: it has 3,400 places.

We read Home Affairs' official quota table on 1 October at 22:16, Argentina time. Six countries went from “paused” to “open” in the same batch, and three of them are nationalities we follow closely: Argentina, Ecuador and Peru.
There was no announcement, as usual: the only thing that changes is one word in a table. That's why we check it every fifteen minutes.
The six that reopened, with their annual quota: Argentina 3,400, Singapore 2,500, Thailand 2,000, Peru 1,500, Malaysia 1,100 and Ecuador 100.
With this, the board stands at 22 countries open, 3 paused — Brazil, Mongolia and Papua New Guinea — and 4 that enter through a prior ballot: China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Brazil is the only nationality we cover that is still paused, with 500 places.
The quota is first come, first served and no one announces when it runs out: when it fills, the status goes back to “paused” without warning. If you have your documents ready, apply today.
Home Affairs notes that a status change can take up to 48 hours to show on its page, so the status you see may lag behind reality, in both directions.
A quota being open does not mean many places are left. The number Home Affairs publishes is the country's annual quota, not the places remaining: nobody publishes that.

Abroad, getting sick is more than a bad day. In many destinations public healthcare depends on appointments, queues and availability, and private care is paid upfront. An emergency can cost thousands of USD, right when you are far from home and on a tight budget. That is why I recommend you never leave without travel assistance.
I recommend GO! Assistance because it covers what matters: medical care, emergencies, medication and hospitalization depending on the plan. It protects you 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world, with real-time solutions on the ground. GO! 365 ECO and GO! 365 give you USD 45,000 of global coverage: the first with a USD 100 deductible, the second with none.
If you quote from Argentina, in October GO! also offers 12 interest-free instalments on selected products.

When you work in another country, sooner or later you will want to send money home: to help your family, cover a bill or put your savings away. That is what I use Remitly for, and why I recommend it. It is very fast: it connects to any local account in your home country and the money arrives in minutes.
You can choose between different ways to send, depending on what suits you, and the fees are low. On top of that, my ambassador code AMB6M8 gets you USD 20 off your first transfer. It applies to transfers from the countries where Remitly operates, so check in the app whether the code works in yours before you send.
