The process has two official platforms: first you complete the application online on France-Visas (france-visas.gouv.fr) and then you book an appointment to submit it in person at the Consulate General of France in Buenos Aires through the official appointment system (consulat.gouv.fr). Here is the step-by-step for both parts and how to answer the key fields.

Application platform: France-Visas (France's official visa portal) + in-person appointment at the Consulate General of France in Buenos Aires.
Open the official form ↗

🪜 Step by step

1
Go to the France-Visas assistant
Go to france-visas.gouv.fr and use the 'Assistant visa'. Answer country of origin (Argentina), destination (France), duration (more than 90 days / long stay) and reason (working holiday / vacances-travail). The assistant confirms that the VVT is the right visa and builds your list of documents.
2
Create your account and start the application
Register with an email address you check often and create the long-stay (long séjour) visa application. You can save and resume. All communication may reach you at that email address.
3
Personal details (Identité)
Enter your first name and surname EXACTLY as they appear in your passport, date and place of birth, citizenship (Argentine) and marital status. Any difference from the passport can delay or block the application.
4
Passport details
Passport number, type, issue and expiry dates and issuing authority, exactly as on the document. Check that the passport is less than 10 years old and has blank pages.
5
Purpose of travel and visa requested
Choose 'Vacances-Travail' / Working Holiday as the category. State a stay of 12 months. Ordinary 'tourism' or 'work' do not apply: it is its own category.
6
Trip details and accommodation
Enter your planned arrival date (remember: between 3 months and 15 days beforehand) and the details of your accommodation for the first few days, which you will later back up with a booking or an invitation letter.
7
Funds and insurance
State that you have the funds (€2,500+) and health insurance. You will back this up with the bank statement and the insurance policy at your in-person appointment.
8
Review, generate and print the form
Check EVERYTHING (name and passport details are the most common mistakes), confirm and download the form. Print it and sign it by hand: this is the copy you take to the consulate.
9
Book an appointment at the consulate
Go to consulat.gouv.fr, find the VISAS VVT appointment system of the Consulate General of France in Buenos Aires, enter the number of people, choose 'Visa VVT', read and accept the information, book a day and time and fill in your details. Appointments are available online only; do not hire intermediaries.
10
Put your folder together and attend
Arrange all the original documents + copies in the order the consulate asks for and go to your appointment on the day. There they take your biometrics and give you the tracking receipt.

🧾 Form fields, one by one

Nom / Prénom (Apellido / Nombre)
Exactly as in your passport. 'Nom' = surname, 'Prénom' = first name(s). If your passport doesn't separate them in the same way, follow the machine-readable zone of the document.
Date et lieu de naissance
Date and place of birth exactly as in your passport. Be careful with the date format (day/month/year) so you don't swap day and month.
Numéro de passeport
Passport number exactly as it appears, keeping letters and numbers, with no extra spaces.
Type de visa / Motif
Choose long-stay visa (long séjour) and the reason 'Vacances-Travail' (Working Holiday). Do not confuse it with tourism or with a standard work visa.
Durée du séjour
12 months. The VVT is for one year and is not renewable.
Date d'entrée prévue
Planned date of entry into France. It must fall within the window of 3 months to 15 days from the appointment/application.
Ressources / Assurance
You declare that you have the funds (€2,500+) and health insurance (€30,000). You then back this up with the bank statement and the policy at your in-person appointment.

🛡️ Getting sick far from home shouldn't cost you thousands of USD

Abroad, getting sick is more than a bad day. In many destinations public healthcare depends on appointments, queues and availability, and private care is paid upfront. An emergency can cost thousands of USD, right when you are far from home and on a tight budget. That is why I recommend you never leave without travel assistance.

I recommend GO! Assistance because it covers what matters: medical care, emergencies, medication and hospitalization depending on the plan. It protects you 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world, with real-time solutions on the ground. GO! 365 ECO and GO! 365 give you USD 45,000 of global coverage: the first with a USD 100 deductible, the second with none.

If you quote from Argentina, in October GO! also offers 12 interest-free instalments on selected products.

Remitly · Send money home in minutes, with low fees

When you work in another country, sooner or later you will want to send money home: to help your family, cover a bill or put your savings away. That is what I use Remitly for, and why I recommend it. It is very fast: it connects to any local account in your home country and the money arrives in minutes.

You can choose between different ways to send, depending on what suits you, and the fees are low. On top of that, my ambassador code AMB6M8 gets you USD 20 off your first transfer. It applies to transfers from the countries where Remitly operates, so check in the app whether the code works in yours before you send.
